Loganville

The Gwinnett History Museum is located on the second floor of the historic Lawrenceville Female Seminary Building, which was constructed by Daniel Killian in 1838. The building was destroyed by a fire during the 1850’s but was rebuilt thereafter in its existing Greek revival structure. In 1974, a Dairy Queen site threatened to raze the building but earnest citizens raised a large sum of money in order to save and restore the building. The Museum contains exhibits offering visitors unique glimpses into the history of Gwinnett County and its inhabitants by displaying county related historic and folk artifacts. Artifacts on display throughout the museum include furniture, farm tools and equipment, clothing, textiles, looming equipment, turn of the century kitchen exhibits, Gwinnett County church exhibits, one room schoolhouse exhibits and a Georgian bluegrass music exhibit. The museum is now listed on the National Register of Historic Places.

The beautiful Vines Botanical Gardens is located within the community of Loganville as one of Gwinnett County’s prime attractions. This Garden was converted from an original private estate. It features curving pathways through 25 acres of blossoming gardens amidst a scenic lake adorned by fountains and swans. The Manor House, an elegant 18,000 square foot structure, overlooks the gardens. The Manor House is decorated with marble floors, floor-to-ceiling windows, crystal chandeliers and a wood-paneled library. Approximately 40 miles from Loganville in Chattahoochee, Georgia is the Chattahoochee River National Recreation Area. The many activities offered in the area include: fishing, boating, kayaking, whitewater rafting, hiking, horseback riding, biking and picnicking.
